Mom Visits PEI

Or as I'd rather say, Mom visits me ;) The last four days have been more than delightful. Oh, not without the usual Mom antics, but I still relished every moment. It's not like I haven't been away from family over my 7 years of university... I guess I just never had this much freedom away from them, or any other cantonese-speaking people. We had an eventful 4 days, a weekend which felt more like a week to me! It was exhausting and exhilarating. It was such a blessing to be able to share my meals, my sleep, my laughs and my prayers with someone close to my heart...even if just for a short while.

A visit to Interlude to see Uncle Kevin and Auntie Rita. Wonderful food...I did wish the rice portions were bigger. Since my nickname is 'rice bucket', I'd rather think that I was just being picky, but even for people who don't each much rice, the rice portions were on the smaller side. Delicious dumplings though!

Oh, what trip with Mom would be complete without mad baking experiments? Now this was more like having Mom over to my home than 'going on vacation' ;)

Oh and again, a trip to PEI would not be complete without lobsters! Though the local fishing season is not yet open, we received fresh catch of the day lobsters from Nova Scotia fishermen at a discounted price due to Valentine's Day specials. Trivia: how deep is a fathom? I think I'll be a hundred pounds heavier, if not in body size then arterial diameter, by the time I actually move home again.

Definitely had to show Mom the farmer's market too. My goodness this bagel sandwich was amazingly delicious. Fresh-sliced smoked salmon with cream cheese, onions, capers and fresh dill.... YUM! We also made a visit to the free trade coffee stand for a little bit of "the Two Mexicans" for Dad. It's strong, though I'm not too sure about smooth. My nose did like the Peruvian beans better than the Mexican. Then again, I'm not really a coffee drinker at all - I just know I don't like the smell of Tim's coffee :( It smells like burnt sour roast!

Mom and I standing on the side of the road on a bridge passing over the Winter River.

There were more visits to Grace Baptist and the chinese church. Sara, a new friend and blessed sister, and I will be serving together at the latter alongside Wendy, a Taiwanese missionary from Calgary. It is delightful to finally meet someone close to my age with similar visions for serving the chinese immigrants. For the first time, I can truly see the impact of what it means when the bible says that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Keep us in prayer as we plug away at logistics and planning the course of implementing means for building a sense of spiritual community amongst the chinese on the island.
