One Year

Today marks the day that I first arrived on PEI on my own, checking things out as I awaited word on the new job. True, I did come in April 2010 with my brother and his wife, but December 7th marks my official landing on this island on my own. Weird to think about it. All the ways God has shown me how He is real and sovereign; how His Spirit is living and active... just unbelievable to think yet another year has flown by. And so each year flies, one after the other! I remember when school never seemed to end. Now I don't want these periods of my life to end.

Honestly I didn't write a birthday post this year mostly because I was too busy to remember to keep writing here. Now I have another reason... not only can I count that my birthday is special to me because Marcus was also born on the same date, but now my birthday is dear to me because Pastor Daniel Ting died on that same date this year. His memorial service was held at HCAC in Halifax, NS just a couple weeks ago and I witnessed the love of Christ poured out through testimony after testimony of the lives God has touched through Pastor Daniel.

Through my experiences in this past year and a half, I am learning that I am growing in so many ways, and most evident to me these last months is the curiosity to think, to question, to critically examine the nature of my beliefs and what that looks like in my daily life. At work, we talk a lot about priorities. Moving to the Island, I decided that beyond believing that it is important to me for Christ to be evident in my life, I want to make that a priority. Sounds easy to write, yet I struggle with different aspects of this every day. In this struggle, I continue to discover new pieces of God's grace as I see it in action.

One year.

Pastor Steve preached on Luke 2, pointing out in particular 2:33...as Mary and Joseph brought the boy Jesus to the temple, Simeon came to bless them in this passage. "And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him." Shall we remember to marvel at the Christ born to this earth for us? Luke 2:34-35 reads, "And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, 'Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.'"

Merry Christmas :) Only 17 more sleeps. Where has the time gone?!
